Documentation and Training

Remote users still must submit the appropriate documentation (esaf and hazard assessment forms) as well as stay current with their APS training profiles. Remote users are identified on the Experimenters page of the esaf under the user type column. The following page from the APS esaf system shows both John Chrzas and Gerd Rosenbaum as remote users, and that John Gonczy will be the on-site PI for this esaf – it is important that you identify an on-site PI.

The APS still requires you to list all of your staff that will be using the facility. The APS uses this information for their statistics on their user base as well as being required by the APS safety policies.  If you will have no members of your staff physically at the APS, then you should list your user support as the onsite PI. The APS is working on implementing a web compatible electronic signature for the esaf.

Please take the time to properly train your staff on how to use the beamlines before you leave them alone. The beamline user guide is a good starting point prior to your actual beam time.

The APS training is now available through a web interface You can also use this interface to take your training before you arrive, so take advantage of this whenever possible.
