Sample Preparation

Caps:

The SER-CAT beam lines use ALS style automounting robots. For optimal performance, our robots require ALS style magnetic caps from Hampton Research, P/N HR4-779.

Loops:

The robots do not require any specific type of loop, so you can use nylon from Hampton Research or litholoops from Molecular Dimensions.. The height of your samples should stay within 16-20 mm (we recommend 18mm), and you should strive for consistency within your own samples. Severely bent loops can present a problem for the auto-centering software and should be discarded for optimal performance.

It is very useful to match your loop size to your sample and is a practice that will provide a more productive synchrotron visit as either a local or remote user.
